Description

Façade covering of 2 new buildings that will house the new FFS maintenance center for the Gotthard tunnel. One building ( B2 about 1600 m2 ) was covered with metal sheet whereas the other one (B1 about 1300 m2 ) provided for an insulated façade.

Technical features

Building B2 - 220 m x 13 m x 9.3 m - covering metal sheets : MONTANA MF35-5 / 250 V A aluminum perforated metal sheets treated with Permalux P3 ( m ) color anodizing as surface protection.

Building B1 - 160 m x 18 m x 9.6 m - covering sheets : MONTANA MF35-5 / 250 V A aluminum perforated metal sheets treated with Permalux P3 ( m ) color anodizing as surface protection.  The insulating layer is made ​​with 200 mm mineral wool panels covered with Stamisol Color Charbon semi–transparent membrane.

Technical description

We built two different types of façade coverings.

On the first building B2, the metal sheets have the sole aesthetics purpose and were assembled by applying , directly on the prefabricated panels, extrusion aluminum sections using stainless steel screw dowels. Metal sheets have been fastened by hidden stainless steel self-drilling screws. 

The peculiarities of the triangular shape is the micro-drilling of the metal sheets and their anodizing treatment by creating special play of light that change with the effect of solar lighting . 

The second building B1 design involved the construction of a ventilated façade with the same metal sheets used for the building B2.

The part of the substructure is composed of a thickness of 200 mm of mineral wool applied to the masonry by using whether mechanical fasteners or cement mortar because of the building height of about 9 m.

We used the Spidi-Max support system that allowed us to compensate for all irregularities of concrete walls and to lay the vertical and horizontal framework, composed of L and Z aluminum sections, in a logical way.

We paid particular attention to the creation of a support, with maximum grid of 1 m x 2.5 m, so as to properly fasten the Stamisol Color semi–transparent membrane. In concordance with suppliers, we have studied and developed some details that allowed the fastening of the external framework on this fragile element, thus ensuring the façade tightness and the external metal sheets static seal.

Our static engineer has controlled all the façade elements so as to ensure, even in borderline cases, the observance of all current regulations.

We have also created an external shelter without pillars, which total area is ​​about 550 m2, and several metal carpentry works inside the two buildings (winder staircases, landings, supporting structures for machineries, etc.)
